October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the cancer.org website about 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2015. Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in women, and 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer. While several risk factors like gender, aging and genetic risks cannot be avoided, there are some things women can do to reduce their risk including limiting alcohol use, not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and increasing daily, physical activity. Columbia County Health System can also assist you with diagnostic testing, smoking cessation classes, referral, and education.
