NOSORH-iVantage-Award-Logo-Final-v2

On November 19, 2015, leaders from the rural health community from across the country will celebrate National Rural Health Day in recognition of the tremendous accomplishments that have been achieved in rural healthcare this year. In support of this recognition, iVantage Health Analytics has developed a data-driven program designed to identify excellence across a broad spectrum of indicators relevant to hospital performance and patient care.

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) and iVantage recognize Washington as having 37 hospitals reach top quartile performance status in Quality, Outcomes, Patient Satisfaction, and Financial Strength compared to all acute care hospitals in the nation. The rankings have been designated by the Hospital Strength INDEXTM, the assessment of hospital performance in the country to include all rural providers.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the cancer.org website about 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2015. Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in women, and 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer. While several risk factors like gender, aging and genetic risks cannot be avoided, there are some things women can do to reduce their risk including limiting alcohol use, not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and increasing daily, physical activity. Columbia County Health System can also assist you with diagnostic testing, smoking cessation classes, referral, and education. If you have a family history of breast cancer, or feel that you would like to speak to a provider about breast cancer, please contact one of our clinics and set up an appointment with your provider

Emergency Medical Flight Crews Provide Life Saving Service to Rural Areas

Dayton_Scott_Kirk_Photography

Our Emergency Department team members work fast to provide life saving and stabilization services to trauma patients, but just as important is the rapid response of regional medical flight crews. There is no doubt that the residents of Columbia County, and rural Washington State in general, rely heavily on the men and women supporting the emergency medical flight organizations.

In the United States, one in 5 women will have a stroke; Patients suffering a stroke require rapid transportation to the nearest stroke center. In some cases we are able to administer a brain saving drug called tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) and then transport via the fastest method possible, which is often helicopter. Columbia County is serviced by both Northwest Medstar and Lifeflight.

Springtime on the CCHD campus.

The Health System maintains a park like campus thanks to the fantastic facilities team. Residents, staff, and in-patients often comment about how well the grounds look and enjoy the view from their windows as well as getting out and about around the facility.
